Rove, shafting our troops, the American inquisition, pro-slavery teacher and GOP playtime, Hookergate.

Karl Rove tells us what a great job Bush is doing on the border. The 29% will eat it up.

Top presidential adviser Karl Rove asserted today that the Bush
administration is "doing a heck of a lot better job" in controlling the
U.S.-Mexican border than most Americans realize, and he said the government aims
to end this year the practice of releasing most apprehended illegal immigrants
from countries other than Mexico.

While the United States needs to improve border security, he said, "Most
people don't understand that we're doing a heck of a lot better job of getting
control of the border." He said an average of 4,200 illegal border crossers per
day have been "apprehended and returned" this year, an increase of 1,000 people
a day from last year.

Sounds good, but like anything else with the Bush Administration, when they say one thing it usually means something else. In fact the illegal-alien population was 8 million in 2003, a half million a year increase since 2000. Now in 2006 the illegal-alien population is figured to be 12 million, over a million a year increase since 2003. Yeah, Bush is doing a great job.

We're neglecting the mental health of our troops. We gladly pay Halliburton billions to supply untreated river water, but we short change the men and women that bear the brunt of Bush's mistakes.

Despite a congressional order that the military assess the mental health of
all deploying troops, fewer than 1 in 300 service members see a mental health
professional before shipping out.

Once at war, some unstable
troops are kept on the front lines
while on potent antidepressants and
anti-anxiety drugs, with little or no counseling or medical monitoring.

The Hartford Courent's ongoing investigation is here.

The Religious Right is warning the GOP that they'd better find Jesus and find Him quickly.

WASHINGTON, May 13 — Some of President Bush's most influential conservative
Christian allies are becoming openly critical of the White House and Republicans
in Congress, warning that they will withhold their support in the midterm
elections unless Congress does more to oppose same-sex marriage, obscenity and abortion.

"There is a growing feeling among conservatives
that the only way to cure the problem is for Republicans to lose the
Congressional elections this fall," said Richard Viguerie, a conservative
direct-mail pioneer.

According to people who were at the meetings or were briefed on them, Dr.
Dobson has made the same point more politely in a series of private
conversations over the last two weeks in meetings with several top Republicans,
including Karl
Rove
, the president's top political adviser; Senator Bill
Frist
of Tennessee, the Republican leader; Representative J.
Dennis Hastert
of Illinois, the House speaker; and Representative John
A. Boehner
of Ohio, the majority leader.

Sounds to me like the country's being run by some nut preacher.

You won't believe this, in SC they've run across a pro-slavery high school teacher.

"These sorts of things are going to upset people, but the truth can be very
upsetting," said Brookland-Cayce High School teacher Winston McCuen.

That truth, at least according to McCuen, is that black people are inferior
to whites.

"Intellectually, yes they are," said McCuen. "This has been confirmed over
and over, and this is a generalization. Again, there are some blacks who are
more intelligent than individual whites. But as a rule, that is true. I-Q tests
prove it over, and over and over."

And finally poker, booze and hookers. Dr. Susan Block gets absolutely giddy in her article At Last, a Scandal We Can Enjoy! From counterpunch.org.

Wake up and smell the sex! That sizzling aroma wafting up from Washington
penetrates the nostrils like the scent of hot dogs grilling on the barbie. And
just like that sweet meaty bouquet of backyard BBQs on Memorial Day, it's hard
to tell, from a distance, just whose backyards are having all the fun.
Fortunately, the FBI, a few bloggers and even some mainstream reporters are
sticking their noses into this pork-laden sex scandal we're calling "Hookergate"
(as well as "Fornigate," "Tailgate" and "Watergate-gate").

I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid; I meant, that stupid persons are generally Conservative. I believe that to be so obvious and undeniable a fact that I hardly think any hon. Gentleman will question it.
