The Republican Welfare Program.

Once again the Republicans are showing their compassionate side by extending a $70 billion tax break for the oppressed wealthy.

If you'll notice the chart on the left, it's easy to understand the GOP's economic plan.

It's an incredibly simple plan, you just do everything possible to turn the vertical line into a horizontal line at the top. And I bet you thought that economics was a complex field of study.

This is probably the one thing that Republicans are really good at. In fact, with a little Democrat help, they have become quite efficient at doing away with the vertical line.

If you would check out the bottom 10%, they no longer have a line. It's a lot like a government pyramid scheme.

To justify taking money out of the general economy and putting it in the hands of the top 10%, they say things like this,

"Keeping taxes low helps Americans find and keep work, supports families and
communities with good job bases, and makes America a great place to do business
for companies both here at home and those overseas looking for a place to
invest," Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) said in a statement.

And they'll tell you how it helps the middle class. But,

Middle-income households would receive an average tax cut of $20 from the
agreement, according to the joint Urban Institute-Brookings Institution Tax
Policy Center, while 0.02 percent of households with incomes over $1 million
would receive average tax cuts of $42,000.

So, if you're middle class, you can enjoy almost a half a tank of gas, courtesy of the GOP social safety net. If your congressman votes for this pig of a law, be sure to thank him or her next election.

I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid; I meant, that stupid persons are generally Conservative. I believe that to be so obvious and undeniable a fact that I hardly think any hon. Gentleman will question it.
