John McCain, Prophet.

"After meeting Putin for the first time in June 2001, Bush said he had been able
to gain "a sense of his soul" and had found Putin to be "very straightforward
and trustworthy."

Recalling Bush's assessment just months after taking
office, McCain said: "Look,
we all say things that are stupid
. ... I'm sure that the president has
re-evaluated his position in light of Putin's recent actions."

And to prove his point, yesterday

"2008 presidential hopeful John McCain said Sunday that the consequences of a
military conflict with Iran over that country's nuclear program could be so
serious they could lead to "Armageddon.""

Of course when sucking up to the religious right it helps to say stupid things.

I did not mean that Conservatives are generally stupid; I meant, that stupid persons are generally Conservative. I believe that to be so obvious and undeniable a fact that I hardly think any hon. Gentleman will question it.
